With the current crisis in the Middle East, and a common perception of Middle Easterners being terrorist ogres, I thought it would be nice to help show the West a pleasant face of Persian humanity.
This 19th century novel, set in Persia (or Iran), is written by an Englishman familiar with their culture. This helps make the humour and warmth of the Iranian people more accessible to us in the West.

The novel, in translation, is a classic in Persia. It was once popular in the West, but its familiarity seems to have faded a little.
